Wing Chun is best known as the art made famous by the late Bruce
Lee. When Bruce Lee returned to the states in 1959 he impressed and
astounded many with his techniques and theories of self defense that he
had developed based on his Wing Chun training.
Wing Chun is a practical and effective self defense system that was
developed in Southern China. It is one of the last styles that was created
in the famous Shaolin Temple. Wing Chun a result-oriented martial
art known for efficiency and economy of movement. It consists of short,
direct movements designed to eliminate any wasted energy and to generate
speed in the counter attack. Wing Chun’s appeal is due both to its
simplicity and its depth. Chess, music, and math enthusiast are aware of
how a few well-chosen concepts can produce a wealth of expression which
can take a lifetime to explore. Such is the case with
Wing Chun.
Over the years since its initial development, Wing Chun has
remained true to its self-defense principles. One of it's driving
principles (train as you fight) is to not practice things that just don't
work or help your progression. Consequently, the system does not contain
any flowery or showy kick or hand techniques that other styles use
to entice potential martial artist. However, in addition to its
effectiveness, the one-inch punch, blindfolded sticky hands, and the
wooden dummy techniques are impressive enough to influence many to study
Wing Chun.
