Training Methods
The founders of Wing Chun developed several
principles that use intelligence to overcome
brute strength, quickly and
effectively. By not opposing brute force, a Wing Chun practitioner uses his opponent's
strength to make his techniques more effective.
The principles
of Wing Chun are easy to learn and adaptable. Self-defense techniques
are neither applied mechanically nor following fixed schemes, but
according to the feeling. In a self-defense situation, if one has
to think what movement could be the right to use, he will always be to
slow. Consequently, the Wing
Chun student learns to develop reflexes that trigger the correct
technique. At higher levels, an experienced Wing Chun fighter is able to
fight blindfolded. By always staying in physical contact with the
opponent, experienced fighters are able to feel the
opponent's force and respond to it before the opponent has a chance to
launch an effective attack. Also, because Wing Chun's techniques
are compact, the space needed to defend oneself is very small. It
is said "if you get your enemy in to a telephone booth, he will have no
chance". |
